I have been practicing Nia since April 2013 and achieved my White Belt in August 2014. I am the first person to bring Nia to Dumfries & Galloway and began teaching weekly classes in November 2014 in Dumfries.
Nia is a barefoot movement practice which takes inspiration from Martial Arts, Dance Arts and Healing Arts such as yoga and blends these together to create a joyous dance experience. It is set to uplifting music from around the world and is suitable for all fitness abilities. You are given the chance to move in Your Body's Way and feel free as you find comfort and pleasure in every movement.
I am also a qualified Fitness Instructor(Exercise to Music) and regularly practice yoga and I draw from my experience with both of these to create enjoyable and safe classes suitable for all fitness levels.
I have been dancing since I was a child for the pure joy of it, taking part in many classes and workshops of varied styles over the years. I never really believed I was a dancer until I began practicing Nia. Now I truly believe that everybody can dance and become a dancer if they choose to. You just have to have passion and believe! Nia has helped me to believe in myself and now I continue to learn as I share my passion of Nia and dance with others.
